The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians resides in the Qualla Boundary, a spectacular territory that includes part of Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and Cherokee Counties, including the town of Cherokee. The Eastern Band includes about 13,000 tribal members; more than 8,000 live in Qualla Boundary.
The Great Smoky National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway are located here. Outdoor activities abound in this gorgeous community, including hiking, birding, biking, and water sports. Harrah's Cherokee Hotel and Casino offers world-class entertainment and gaming; it is the largest employer in western North Carolina.
The rich culture of the Cherokee people is palpable in the Qualla Boundary. They embrace long-standing traditions, including their history, language, native dances and ceremonies, distinctive arts and crafts, and food. The Cherokee people are open and friendly. In many cases, the tribe adopts people, making them honorary members.
Entrepreneurs are warmly welcomed here. There are tax incentives, no state sales tax or property taxes, and excellent resources for starting or relocating a business. Qualla Boundary is a delightful, distinctive place to live and have a business.
